The best Amalfi Coast wedding venues are the cliffside hotels and historic villas of Ravello, Positano and Amalfi town, and the right one depends on your guest count, your ceremony type and how much road and stair travel your guests can handle. Ravello suits garden ceremonies and quiet elegance, Positano suits sea-view terraces and a more social scene, and Amalfi town offers convent cloisters and a private beach. Below we compare the standout venues, explain how the legal side works for U.S. couples, and show what to check before you commit.
TL;DR
- Ravello (Villa Cimbrone, Caruso, Palazzo Avino) offers historic gardens and terraces above the sea, from boutique to full-service.
- Positano (Le Sirenuse, Covo dei Saraceni, Villa Oliviero, Villa Magia) offers rooftop and cliffside terraces, from 15-guest micro-weddings to about 100 guests.
- Amalfi town (Anantara Convento di Amalfi, Hotel Santa Caterina) offers a 13th-century chapel, cloisters and beach access.
- For a legally valid wedding, the venue’s space must be registered by the comune, or the legal part happens at the town hall and the venue ceremony is symbolic.
- Plan around road traffic: June and September balance weather and access, and boats can replace road transfers.

How to choose between Ravello, Positano, Amalfi and Capri
Start with the place, not the venue. Each town changes the feel of the whole weekend.
Ravello sits high above the coast. It is quieter, greener and more formal. Its venues are mostly historic palaces with manicured gardens and terrace views, so the mood is garden-party elegance rather than beach.
Positano is vertical, colorful and lively. Venues here lean on sea-facing terraces, rooftops and private beach access. Expect stairs, and plan guest movement carefully.
Amalfi town gives you history at sea level: a former convent, cloisters, a cathedral nearby and hotels with their own waterfront.
Capri is a short boat ride away and has its own island settings, such as villas with gardens and panoramic terraces. Because boat schedules and island logistics add a layer, we recommend building the weekend around a confirmed transport plan before you shortlist anything there.

Guest count narrows things fast. A micro-wedding of 15 opens options that a 120-guest celebration closes, and the reverse is true too. Decide a rough number first.
Ravello wedding venues
Villa Cimbrone
Villa Cimbrone is a prestigious hotel in a 12th-century residence in Ravello, and the family that owns it preserves its original architectural and decorative features. Its best-known spot is the Terrace of Infinity. Wedding Sparrow’s guide describes ceremonies, banquets and cocktail receptions here, with music until midnight, 19 guest rooms and capacity for 150 guests.
It is the venue for couples who want the postcard image: a ceremony among the gardens with the sea beyond. Because the guest rooms are limited, most of your group will stay elsewhere in Ravello, so transport after the reception deserves a plan.
Caruso, A Belmond Hotel
Caruso is an 11th-century palace in Ravello with 50 rooms and suites (17 rooms and 33 suites), fine dining at Il Pantaleone and private dining for up to 90 guests. Its infinity pool, built in 2005, is described in Belmond’s own press kit as appearing suspended over the coastline.
For a reception, Wedding Sparrow describes an alfresco banquet in the Wagner Gardens, followed by drinks and dancing around the pool or in a frescoed hall. This is the full-service choice: a hotel that can host the group, feed it and entertain it in one footprint.
Palazzo Avino
Palazzo Avino is a 5-star hotel set within Palazzo Sasso, a former noble residence dating to the 12th century. It has 43 rooms including 10 suites, a Michelin-starred restaurant (Rossellinis), a heated outdoor pool, a spa and a Club House by the Sea. Its boutique scale makes it a refined pick for smaller groups who want an intimate weekend rather than a large production.
Comparing the Ravello three
| Venue | Setting | Best for | Capacity notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Villa Cimbrone | 12th-century residence, gardens, Terrace of Infinity | Iconic garden ceremony | Up to 150 guests per Wedding Sparrow; 19 guest rooms |
| Caruso | 11th-century palace, infinity pool, frescoed hall | Full-service luxury | Private dining up to 90; 50 rooms and suites |
| Palazzo Avino | Former noble residence, Michelin-starred dining, spa | Boutique, smaller groups | 43 rooms including 10 suites |
Always confirm capacity and buyout terms with the venue directly, since they can change by season and event format.
Positano wedding venues
Le Sirenuse
Le Sirenuse is the Positano name most couples know. Italian Venues lists it as hosting up to 100 guests for ceremonies on its sea-facing terrace, with dinner at Michelin-starred La Sponda by the light of 400 candles.
Covo dei Saraceni
Covo dei Saraceni gives you three distinct spaces: the Bougainville Room for larger receptions, the Savino Terrace facing sea and beach, and the Volavento Terrace for intimate candlelit evenings. That mix lets you split a day between a big dinner and a smaller moment.
Villa Oliviero
Villa Oliviero supports civil ceremonies in English that are legally valid, and can arrange a Catholic ceremony at nearby Santa Maria Assunta followed by a villa reception. Its Red Terrace hosts civil or symbolic ceremonies and cocktails, while the White or Green Terrace hosts dinner and cake cutting, with seated dinner capacity up to 80.
Villa Magia and other intimate options
If your plan is an elopement or micro-wedding, Villa Magia hosts up to 15 guests from 2026, according to a local planner’s venue guide. It is among the most private settings in Positano. For something with car access, Hotel Marincanto is described as one of the few central venues reachable by car, hosting symbolic ceremonies for about 20 to 50 guests, per a 2026 venue roundup.
Other Positano estates and hotels, including cliffside villas with gardens and direct sea access, exist too. We can shortlist them for your date and group size through our Positano vacation packages team.
Amalfi town venues
The Anantara Convento di Amalfi offers a 13th-century chapel for Catholic ceremonies of up to 60 guests, cloisters for ceremonies of any faith up to 60, a sea-facing Belvedere Terrace for private banquets, the Walk of the Monks for champagne receptions and an indoor restaurant for formal banquets.

Its brochure publishes ceremony prices: €2,200 for a Catholic ceremony, €3,300 for a civil or symbolic cloister ceremony and €3,000 for a civil or symbolic Belvedere Terrace ceremony. The brochure states these bookings require the hotel’s banquet or cocktail reception, and prices include VAT. Confirm current rates with the hotel.
For a bigger celebration, Hotel Santa Caterina has private beach access, Mediterranean gardens for outdoor ceremonies and room for up to 150 guests, according to a 2024 venue guide.
Capri wedding venues
Capri adds island glamour: cliff-top gardens, historic villas and hotel terraces. Because venue details here vary by season and by event format, we confirm capacity, ceremony options and boat logistics directly with each property before recommending it, and we build the guest transfers around ferry or private boat timing. Tell us your date and group size and we will bring you a short list that actually fits.
What an Amalfi Coast wedding costs
Venue fees are only one line. Published ceremony fees like Anantara’s above are modest next to the full event, because the real spend sits in the reception, accommodation, flowers, music and transport. For a fuller breakdown of how U.S. couples budget, see our guide to Italy destination wedding costs and consular steps and our budget-first destination wedding guide.
Two useful reference points on the legal side: the U.S. Embassy says Italian marriage-hall fees range from €500 to €9,200 depending on location, season and day.
When you compare quotes, ask each venue the same questions:
- Is the ceremony fee separate from the reception minimum, and is VAT included?
- Is a full buyout required, or optional?
- What is the wet-weather room, and does it hold your full guest count?
- What are the music and noise curfews?
- Which services are in house and which require outside vendors?
Legal ceremony or symbolic: what U.S. couples need to know
This is the part that surprises most couples. According to the U.S. Embassy in Italy, Italy permits civil ceremonies and Roman Catholic religious ceremonies that are valid as marriages. For a civil wedding, U.S. citizens make a declaration before the local marriage office with two witnesses and, if needed, an interpreter. Banns may be waived or shortened for nonresidents. Check the local town hall’s document list and timing before you book travel.
What this means for venue choice:
- Check registration. Civil ceremonies must be held at town halls or locations registered by the comune, according to a wedding directory’s legal guide. If your dream terrace is not registered, the legal ceremony may take place at the town hall and the venue ceremony is symbolic.
- Catholic weddings can be legally binding if registered properly, but they follow church rules, including baptism certificates and marriage preparation courses, per the same directory.
- Many U.S. couples marry legally at home first and hold a symbolic ceremony in Italy. Our destination wedding legal steps guide walks through the paperwork before you book.
Guest access, timing and weather
The coast road, the SS163, is too narrow for full-sized coaches, so guests move in eight-seat vans, and private boats are another option. Plan for stairs at nearly every venue, and think about older relatives early.
Planners point out that the main constraint when choosing a month is road traffic in July and August more than temperature, and they suggest June and September for a balance of weather and access. Boats can be faster and more comfortable than road transfers there as well. Read our guide to the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast and how we approach booking a private boat.
Also reserve guest rooms early. As a rough guide to rates, Villa Cimbrone shows rates from €672 per night on a travel listing updated in October 2026, and Palazzo Avino starts at €522 for Deluxe Rooms. Rates move by season and date, so treat these as orientation only.
Our perspective
After 35 years of designing high-end journeys, we have learned that the venue is the easy decision and the weekend around it is the hard one. A couple falls for a terrace, then discovers that half their guests cannot manage the stairs, the legal ceremony needs a town hall appointment, and the best boat operator is booked in June.
That is why we start with your guest list, your season and your legal route, and only then match venues. We work with on-the-ground partners who know each property, and we design the full itinerary: arrival days, transfers by van or boat, rooms for your family, a rehearsal dinner and the honeymoon after.
We charge no service fees, we offer a price match guarantee, and we are open 24/7, so a delayed flight on a wedding eve gets answered at any hour. Our aim is a day that feels effortless to you and your guests.

FAQ
Which Amalfi Coast town is best for a wedding?
Ravello suits garden ceremonies and a calm, formal mood. Positano suits sea-view terraces and a livelier setting. Amalfi town suits couples who want a historic chapel and cloisters with beach access nearby. The best choice depends on guest count and how much stair climbing your group can manage.
Can we have a legally binding wedding at an Amalfi Coast venue?
Only if the venue is registered by the comune for civil weddings, or if you hold a Catholic ceremony registered correctly. Otherwise the legal part takes place at the town hall and the venue ceremony is symbolic. Confirm the document list with the local town hall, as the U.S. Embassy advises.
What is the smallest wedding an Amalfi Coast venue can host?
Some venues focus on elopements and micro-weddings. Villa Magia in Positano, for example, hosts up to 15 guests from 2026, according to a local planning guide. Other venues, like Anantara’s cloisters, host up to 60 for a ceremony.
When is the best month to marry on the Amalfi Coast?
June and September are often recommended because they balance weather with easier road access than peak July and August. Check our seasonal guide for how we plan around crowds and boats.
