Hot top 3 Europe destination this year, Amsterdam, Paris and Rome

by Tammy Levent March 26, 2018
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

Looking to tour Europe this year? Excellent, because there’s so many amazing places to see and things to do. Right now, the hottest tourist destinations are Amsterdam, Paris and Rome.

Amsterdam: Tourists are flocking to the capital of the Netherlands and there’s good reason why: It’s absolutely beautiful. It has numerous canals and bridges, and buildings that are uniquely propped up on wooden poles. The country is filled with rich history, from Anne Frank, whose story of being a Jewish girl who went into hiding to escape the Nazis you can see at the Anne Frank Museum. There’s the Dutch painter, Vincent Van Gogh, who was born in the Netherlands and known for such paintings as Starry Night. You can tour the Van Gogh Museum and enjoy Museum Night every November. Amsterdam is also the home of the Heineken beer and, of course, the Royal Palace, which is active and can be toured.  Last, but not least, is the government monument, The Vondelpark, named after a Dutch poet, Joost van den Vondel.

Paris, France: You’ll say oui, oui to Paris! Why? If you really need a reason, let’s start with the fact that France is considered one of the most romantic destinations in the world. It’s called “The City of Love” after all. You can toast your love by touring houses of such great champagne producers as Domaine Pommery, where you can tour the Elizabethan-style estate that includes an exhibition of contemporary art. Visit Moët & Chandon, one of the most popular champagnes in the world and take a 45-minute traditional tour followed by a tasting of Moët Impérial, a champagne that was created in 1869.

Nothing goes better with champagne than chocolate and the Salon du Chocolat, a three-day festival held in October at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, is a must-see. Paris is also one party town so enjoy some nightlife at Le Montana, The Buddha Bar, and the La Locomotive. If you aren’t a club hopper and prefer theater to happy hours, visit Moulin Rouge, a troupe of 80 artists and many international acts who perform to music. Of course, there’s the Eiffel Tower, too.

Rome, Italy: A trip to Italy wouldn’t be complete without stopping in its capital, Rome. Here you can visit the Colosseum, built around 75 A.D and originally called the Flavian Amphitheater. It served as a venue for bloody gladiator matches. After touring, make sure you sample some gelato, especially at Giolitti, a short walk from the Pantheon, which was founded in 1900.

Longest Direct Flights

by Tammy Levent February 14, 2018
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group
This coming March, Qantas Airlines is set to launch the third-longest passenger flight in the world, from Perth to London.  The flight will take approximately a whopping 17 hours! According to Qantas, it will be the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia with Europe when it begins.

“When Qantas created the Kangaroo Route to London in 1947, it took four days and nine stops. Now it will take just 17 hours from Perth non-stop,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce in a statement.

Talk about a game-changer. Years ago, there was no such thing as a direct flight like this or checking in to the airline online or instantaneous mail, but today so many things are possible.

“This is a game-changing route flown by a game-changing aircraft. Australians have never had a direct link to Europe before, so the opportunities this opens up are huge.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners used on the route will carry 236 passengers across Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. Could you take a flight that’s this long?

Forbes magazine recently did an article on the top five longest flights in the world, ranked by distance:

1. Delhi-San Francisco: This Air India flight took a little longer than 14 hours.

3. Dubai-Auckland: Flying via Emirates, this flight takes a quick 16 hours 35 minutes.

4. Dallas-Sydney: This is a 15 hour flight

5. Singapore-San Francisco: Could you do 16 hours, 20 minutes on this flight?

Back to the Perth to London flight: The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners used on the route will carry 236 passengers across Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. It will be the longest Boeing Dreamliner flight in the world. Qantas was the first to operate the world’s largest passenger aircraft (A380) on the world’s longest route (Sydney-Dallas) in 2014.

Digital Trends magazine once talked about these long flights and how the connections are awful and spending 16 hours in a confined space with hundreds of other people, takes its own toll on the mind and body. These flights have in-flight entertainment (IFE) and some of flights are adding Wi-Fi. There are amenities like power outlets or smartphone app-based activities. If you’re booked on one of these flights load up on movies and books to pass the time, don’t forget to get up and walk around and make sure you combat jet lag.

How do I travel Solo?

by Tammy Levent January 31, 2018
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel
I have noticed a huge trend in Solo travel, and for all age groups. How can I start when I want to travel solo and  when it comes to getting the best deals?

Firstly, good for you for keeping up with travel trends! The fact that you are aware that there is a big trend going on when it comes to traveling solo means that you are doing a great job. Congrats!

Solo travel is definitely not a trend to ignore. Whether it’s a millennial who is seeking adventure travel, someone who is recently divorced and wanting some alone time, or seniors looking to check off their favorite traveling destinations from their bucket list, placing a focus on helping solo travelers meet their goals is going to be well worth your while.

Because many people are willing to travel to some of the world’s best vacation destinations solo, solo travel is indeed a great focus for all travel agents. While some may think that this particular travel group isn’t worth putting a focus on because it’s only one person, quite the opposite is true. Solo traveling is a trend that is definitely here to stay!

Know that you may want to be one of those solo travelers  who truly want to travel by themselves, others are more than willing to travel with other solo travelers. That’s why Elite Travel is now choosing to accommodate solo travelers by offering smaller accommodation options.

The fact that solo travel can cost more makes it important for you to be able to find the best travel deals especially  looking to travel by yourself. We have done the research  for you  and will be able to find a few travel destinations that don’t charge more for solo traveling.

Exodus Travels is a great example of a partner we use that places a focus on getting solo travelers to travel together to certain destinations, which was initiated by solo travelers requesting this option. Teeming River Cruises is another example as they offer a solo traveler the option to pay the double rate and then contact their waitlist of same sex singles who are willing to room with someone else.

Visiting Niagara Falls in two days

by Tammy Levent January 18, 2018
written by Tammy Levent

Elite Travel Group

Watching Niagara Falls is one of the most awe-inspiring things a traveler can do. The views and the power of the falls will take your breath away. It is considered one of the most romantic places on earth and one of the most popular tourist destinations and should be a must-see on your travel bucket list.

You can see Niagara Falls by traveling to northern New York or by visiting on the Canadian side – or take the two days and split them up to see both sides. If you’re visiting on the New York side make sure you get tickets to the fun ride, Maid of the Mist, a boat tour that brings you right up to the falls. Before the ride begins, learn everything you need to know about Niagara Falls at their IMAX movie.

Another fun adventure is the Cave of the Winds where you will be outfitted in special sandals and ponchos to keep you dry (oh come on, you’ll get a little wet) and then you’ll descent 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge, take a wooden walkway and head up to the Hurricane Deck where you will feel the Bridal Veil Falls crashing down around you. It’s an incredible experience.

Make sure you visit the New York Niagara Falls State Park and their 8,400 square-foot, state-of-the-art visitors’ facility too.

On the Canadian side, visit the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory operated by the Niagara Parks Commission and home to over 2,000 butterflies. There’s also Bird Kingdom, the World’s Largest Free-Flying Indoor Aviary, where you’ll see exotic birds, animals and reptiles as you search for the legendary Lost Kingdom.

Of course, no matter what side you are on, you need to just stop and enjoy the falls for what they are – incredible. Go back and visit them multiple times before you leave. Book a dinner overlooking the falls and make sure you take some selfies of you and the falls behind you. Stay around for the fireworks shows too.

If you spend both days in Canada, make sure you head over to Toronto, and visit Ripley’s Aquarium and the Hockey Hall of Fame, which holds exhibits about players, teams, National Hockey League (NHL) records, memorabilia and NHL trophies, including the Stanley Cup.

Contact your travel agent to help plan a two-day Niagara Falls vacation.

Traveling with infant tips on the plane

by Tammy Levent October 17, 2017
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel management group

Dear Tammy: The kids are back in school, but that doesn’t mean that the younger ones are traveling with mom and dad. I have many clients who are traveling during the off season. I would like to give them some healthy travel tips and tips on traveling with infants on a plane. What do you recommend?

Tammy: I think it’s awesome that you want to provide your clients with some tips on how to stay healthy while traveling and how to care for their infants while traveling. Tell them that it’s important to ground themselves when they, or their children, or not feeling well, whether it’s a cold, sinus infection or flu and wait to fly until they feel better. If they must travel, ask about over-the-counter medicine for the symptoms. They may want to take a medication for sinus congestion or aches and pains, but be aware that the medication can cause drowsiness.

It’s important to address ear pressure too. Changes in cabin pressure can cause painful popping in the ears, especially for children. Chew gum and have the child chew gum to restore the balance of pressure during takeoff and landing. For infants, bottle-feeding during this time can be helpful.  Eardrops are also available to help ease the pain.

Whatever your mode of travel, have each child pack a bag filled with their favorite treats, cards, electronic games, a book, notebook and pencil and more. They should also pack a surprise gift or two for the plane trip to keep the children entertained.

Children can also suffer from jet lag, so it’s important to build in some time to adjust their nap schedules. Consider adjusting their nap schedule back a few hours.

Make sure to carry any special medications in your carry-on that your child may need, just in case your luggage is lost.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, when traveling on an airplane, a child is best protected when properly restrained in a car safety seat appropriate for the age, weight and height of the child. Children who weigh more than 40lbs can use the aircraft seat belt. The car safety seat should have a label noting that it is FAA-approved. Belt-positioning booster seats cannot be used on airplanes, but they can be checked as luggage (usually without baggage fees) for use in rental cars and taxis.

Keeping in touch with your clients and providing great travel tips is a great way to be a thoughtful travel agent. Nice job.

Exodus Travel Cycling Through Tuscany

by Tammy Levent October 10, 2017
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group 1

When most people think about a trip through the Tuscany countryside, they think about a relaxing drive with the windows down, or enjoying the sites with others on a bus tour. However, with Tuscany’s rolling hills and winding roads, one of the best ways to see the area is on a bicycle. It’s a great way to cover more ground, travel at a slower pace and stop along the way to see sites.

The best part about biking through Tuscany is that, depending on what you are interested in doing while you are there, you can create your own agenda. For example, you can bike through Northern Tuscany and get to know the great city of Florence or just focus on Tuscany and park your bike occasionally to enjoy a glass of wine and a nice meal. Then get back on and continue your journey. The choice is yours.

There’s a tour company called Exodus Travel that helps you to put together your Tuscany biking adventure. As they say, when you bike through Tuscay, you “Live “La Dolce Vita” as you cycle to the iconic city of Pisa, the masterpieces of Florence, wineries and so much more. You can cycle to the iconic leaning tower of Pisa to the Ponte Vecchio in Florence and, of course, through the Tuscan countryside. You’ll see da Vinci’s birthplace and sample some of Italy’s finest cuisine.

In addition, Exodus Travel also has cycling packages for touring other parts of Italy, including Campania and the stunningly beautiful Amalfi Coast. On this tour, you can cycle through the Cilento National Park, quaint fishing villages, the Greco-Roman city of Paestum, Positano and of course Amalfi.

If you’re concerned that you are not up to cycling such big distances, don’t worry. There are tours for the more advanced cyclist as well as moderate tours where you aren’t going faster than 10 miles per hour. There is something for everyone and cycling through Italy brings a whole new level of exploration to your trip.

If you are interested in exploring Italy on bicycle, contact us and we will help to put together a trip of a lifetime for you.

5 Cities in Europe to Travel with Kids

by Tammy Levent October 3, 2017
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

Finding a vacation destination that keeps both adults and kids entertained is important.  Europe is filled with so many cities that are perfect when you are vacationing with the children. Depending on the age of your children, the little ones might like a city’s zoos and parks, while the older ones will enjoy the tours, science centers, parks and museums. Here are five European cities that are a perfect destination for kids.

Copenhagen, Denmark: If you haven’t already, introduce your children to the movie ‘Hans Christian Andersen,’ starring the legendary Danny Kaye before visiting this beautiful city. After they see the flick, they will want to visit the fairytale castles and historic landmarks in person. Denmark is also home to The Blue Planet, the country’s national aquarium and they have a science center, zoo, and children’s museum.

Madrid: Tweens and teens will love the more than 50 museums in Madrid, as well as its nature parks, and amusement parks. There’s the nature park, Faunia Madrid, as well as the train museum, Museo Ferrocarril. Teens will love the architecture at Plaza Mayor and the Museo de Prado which is home to some of the greatest works of art that you will see.

Rome: From the pizza and pasta to the art and architecture, everyone seems to love Rome, including the kids. Kids will love seeing what they are learning about in school, such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Reykjavik, Iceland: You can thank Elsa and Anna, characters in the wildly successful Disney movie Frozen, for a spike in the kids’ interest in Iceland. While you are visiting, make sure to take them on a tour to see some of the more than 30,000 puffins on the islands off the coast of Reykjavik. And kids of all ages love Iceland’s most famous Geysir, a hot water spout.

London, England: If your kids are fans of Mary Poppins, Paddington Bear and Harry Potter, then London has to be on your list of places to see. The stories come to life and you can take them on Harry Potter and Paddington Bear tours.  There’s also Buckingham Palace, the London residence and administrative headquarters of the reigning monarch, the London Zoo, and the Sea Life London that the children will enjoy.

Top 5 zip lines in the world

by Tammy Levent September 14, 2017
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

Got the need for speed? Then try strapping yourself in and zipping down the fastest, highest, and most adrenaline pumping zip lines in the world.

Toro Verde Adventure Park: Home to El Monstruo, or The Monster, and it’s called that for good reason – it’s the longest zip line in the world at 1.57 miles. That equals 28 football fields and you’ll conquer them faster than Olympian Usain Bolt can run a mile, clocking speeds of up to 95 miles per hour. Toro Verde Adventure Park is an Ecological Adventure Park located in Puerto Rico and the views of the area that you will see while you’re traveling down the zip line are breathtaking. The park also offers The Beast zip line as well as the Bull Maze rope course and suspension bridges.

Dragon’s Breath Flight Line: There’s the longest zip line and the longest zip line over water and that’s the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line located in Labadee, Haiti. You’ll fly across the water at 50 miles per hour and hang 500 feet above the Labadee beaches. In this zip line you will sit in a chair versus laying on your stomach.

Zip2000: Sun City, South Africa is home to the fastest zip line in the world, where you’ll ride at speeds of 115 mph. It opened in 2004 and you’ll fly by lying flat on your stomach for the 1.2-mile trip. Zip2000 also puts a rudder between your legs so that you stay straight. The Zip 2000 is for 12 years and over.

Great Wall of China: Don’t just visit the Great Wall of China in Simatai, China. How about zip lining right above it all the way down? Located about three hours outside of Beijing, the trip down only takes about 40 seconds, but the view is well worth it since you will get a 360-degree view of the wall.

SlotZilla: There’s more to do in Las Vegas, Nevada than just hit the slot machines and see the entertaining shows. Head to downtown Vegas at the Fremont Experience and try the SlotZilla zip line. You’ll ride only 77 feet above the crowds who are walking below you, but you’ll get a view of the entire Fremont Experience as you go. It’s also fun being on the streets below and watching the zip liners whizzing over your head.

A tip for all zip liners – wear closed shoes and comfortable clothing. Most zip lines will not allow flip flops or flowing clothes.

Ayers Rock, Australia (Uluru) sights and sounds

by Tammy July 22, 2016
written by Tammy

elite travel
Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation that was created over 600 million years ago, and is located in the southern part of the Northern Territory in Australia’s Red Centre.
Ayers Rock, which is located at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, is an iconic landmark in Australia that some travelers just want to climb and stand on top of (it’s heavily encouraged that you do not do this due to the danger involved), while others want to witness the changes in color as the sunsets strike the rock. The Rock is owned by the Anangu aboriginal people. At the Park, you can take a free guided walk and visit the cultural center where you will learn more about this Anangu culture and see Anangu art.

The Aboriginal landowners of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, are Yankunytjatjara and Pitjantjatjara people who speak their own language. You may see the locals in your travels.

According to the Australia Parks Department, Ayers Rock is higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Chrysler Building in New York. Walking around it can take approximately 3.5 hours, but it can be done.

Even if you just want to get some great photos of Ayers Rock, you should plan on spending at least a day of your Australian trip here. There are other features to see too, which could add to your trip for a few days. Close by the Rock is the Kata Tjuta, formerly called “the Olgas”, and the second major feature of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

In 1950 Ayers Rock, today known as Uluru, was declared a national park. The park has special sunset viewing areas for both the Uluru and the Kata Tjuta.

If you love watching birds, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park has been home to 178 species of bird in the park. This has included such rare species as the scarlet-chested parrot and the grey honeyeater. You can also look for many examples of historic Aboriginal rock art around Uluru and you can see it along the Mala Walk and Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole.

Craft Beer Tours

by Tammy Levent July 8, 2016
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel craft beers
Beer lovers, take notice. There are an endless amount of Craft Beer Tours that you can take for your next vacation. Here is just a sample of where you can enjoy a day of sightseeing and beer tasting.

Durham, North Carolina. Beltline Brew Tours has various tours throughout North Carolina. The one in Durham starts with Bull City Burger and Brewery, then Ponysaurus Brewing Company, and then the unique highlight; Fullsteam Brewery, known for their unusual variety of flavors, including brews made with sweet potatoes, rhubarb, and hickory-smoked malt. Better still, dogs are welcomed and encouraged to visit the brewery. The tour ends back with more sampling at Bull City.

Cooperstown, New York. When you hear about “Cooperstown”, the first thing you probably think is baseball. But the town has much more to offer than that. For example, Ommegang Brewery has tours that go through six different local breweries, where you can see demonstrations, tour specialty shops, and of course, taste some beer. Ommegang also hosts many concerts throughout the summer, and they have a special, limited-edition ‘Game of Thrones’ inspired beer line.

Hood River, Oregon. Oregon has a plethora of different breweries to check out. If you’re looking for one with a tour that’s free, allows children with a parent or guardian, and is shorter than most other tours (about 30 minutes), than Full Sail Brewery is the tour for you. From the pub, you can view Mount Hood and the Columbian River Gorge, filled with sailboarders and kiteboarders. Nothing can beat a beer with a view.

Pottsville, Pennsylvania. If you’re looking for a tour with some history behind it, than look no further than the small-town feel that D.G. Yuengling & Sons Brewery provides. It started in 1831, and is the oldest working brewery in America. On the tour, you can learn how the brewery survived the Prohibition and look at the fermentation caves originally used to keep the beer cool. It’s a great look back in time.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Do you want to make a day trip out of your tour? Then come on down to Dogfish Head’s Brewings and Eats. Founded by Sam Calagione of Brew Masters, the location hosts two different types of tours, one of them free. Once you’ve finished your tour, you can check out some of the musicians above the pub, get some food, or see the sights at Rehoboth Beach. There’s enough to do there to more than satisfy your day trip needs.
