As CEO of Elite Travel, there are a few things I know better than most. I am a walking tourist guide of the Caribbean’s best beaches. I can tell you which resorts really use “top shelf” liquor, and which only say they do. And, I can spot the difference between real service and lip-service within five seconds or less. But most of my clients only want to know one thing: What is the best tropical resort?
That is a tough question. It depends on your budget, your preferences, whether you’d like to drink like a fish at a swim-up bar or snorkel with the fish in a fabulous reef. Your vacation is as individual as you are. That said, there is one all-inclusive boutique-style resort company I never hesitate to recommend: AM Resorts.

Whether they operate under Secrets, NOW, Zoetry, Dreams, Sunscape or Breathless – all their resorts combine consistent quality with personal service and unique properties. But enough of the marketing jargon. What really counts are the reviews I hear from my clients when they come back. Most often, I hear about the service: From the maids, to the bartenders and entertainers, the employees are genuinely warm-hearted people who are happy to help make your stay special. Then, I hear about the food – people are shocked that “resort food” can taste just as good as gourmet restaurant fare in New York or San Francisco!
Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana is no exception to this exceptional reputation. Located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, Secrets Royal Beach is literally on the sand, with rooms forming a crescent around tropical gardens and a “lazy river.”
While you can book your all-inclusive, adults-only stay in any of the resort’s 373 rooms and have a lovely time, I’ve got a few recommendations for how to get the best possible experience. Here’s how I’d do Secrets Royal Beach: Book a swim-up room and start each day by rolling out of bed and into your swimsuit. Then, jump into the lazy river from your patio and float down to the swim-up bar for mimosas, followed by a morning swim, and finish with a fresh-made omelet and fruit. Spend the rest of the morning getting pampered from head to toe at the world-class spa, and enjoy the best lunch on the grounds at the beachside grill. The toughest decision you’ll have to make all day is how to spend your afternoon. Lounging by the pool or on the beach with bottomless cocktails? Parasailing? Fishing? Snorkeling? Yoga on the beach?
Evenings are equally delicious with options for romantic dinners on the beach (lobster anyone?), roulette at the Casino, exploring the restaurant options at NOW Larimar (the nearby sister property – try Spice!), or watching live shows with a “Mamajuana” cocktail in-hand. And yes, Secrets Royal Beach really does use “top shelf” liquor. I know it for a fact.
