If you are a looking for an amazing destination for your next vacation you should head to Sardinia, Italy. Sardinia is a little island just west of Italy and it offers something for every type of traveler from the relaxation seeker to the adrenaline junkie. Here are just a few of the amazing things you can do here:

Enjoy the beaches – The variety of the beaches in Sardinia quite diverse- some of the beaches are wonderfully suited for sunbathing on a towel or beach chair, whereas others are more appropriately enjoyed on horseback.

Explore the caves of Sardinia – Some of most intricate and intriguing caves extend deep beneath the island’s mountains and along its coast. Popular caves to explore include Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune’s grotto), Grotta di Ispinigoli, Grotta del Bue Marino and Grotta di Santa Barbara.

Learn how to cook – You won’t believe some of the things you will learn in these cooking classes from women that have perfected the techniques of cooking some of the best recipes you will ever taste. From the way they prepare their meats and fish to how to make the best pasta and bread- these lessons will tickle your taste buds and help you appreciate the workmanship and artistry that goes into every meal.

Be pampered– The luxury resorts of Sardinia offer some of the most incredible spa experiences the world has to offer. Then, after you have reached your happy place you can lounge by the pool and soak in the sun.

Discover the ancient sites – Although many of the monuments, temples and ruins here are not as well known as those in other parts of the world, visiting the ancient sites of Sardinia is still just as fascinating. A few sites to consider include Il Tempio Di Antas (a temple with Roman and Nuraghic roots), the Nuraghe Su Nuraxi (Sardinia’s sole World Heritage site and the island’s most visited large stone structure), the Amphitheatre in Cagliari and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale (Sardinia’s premier archaeological museum).

Other activities – A few of the other things you can enjoy doing in Sardinia include hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, bike riding and shopping.

Travel Destinations with No Passport Required

Travel Destinations with No Passport Required

A common question in the travel industry is “do I need a passport to travel there?” Believe it or not there are several destination where the answer is no, you do not need a passport. The number of destinations might surprise you. Let’s take a look at a few of the places where you do not need a passport to travel.*

– American Samoa – this area is actually an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the South Pacific Ocean and consists of five main islands as well as two coral atolls.

– Guam – located in the Western Pacific in Micronesia, Guam is a U.S. island territory

– The Northern Mariana Islands

– Puerto Rico mainland and surrounding Puerto Rican islands

– The US Virgin Islands – These consist of Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas, the much smaller Water Island and several minor islands.

On another note, if you are going to need a passport make sure that it has six months or more before it will expire from the date of your departure from your destination. Many countries will not allow you to come home to the United States if your passport expires within that time frame. Want to know more? Read our post about United States passport laws here.

Also, if you have gotten married since the last time you traveled make sure you change your name on your passport. Read what happened to one of our strategic partners who forgot to change her name on her passport!

Incentive Destination Spotlight – Dominican Republic

by Tammy Levent August 5, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

Dominican RepublicA common destination many of our Elite Incentive Travel clients send their employees to is Dominican Republic. When it comes to incentive trips, however, folks often wonder what there is to do in the various destinations. So, in this incentive destination spotlight we thought we would share five fun things you can do if you are lucky enough to earn a trip to Dominican Republic.

Cascade or Canyon the Damajagua and Ciguapa Falls – You’ll start the day innocently enough with a hike to the top of the falls and then you will rappel down them. Some people even take these tours as opportunities to just jump the long drop into the water. Bring comfy shoes for the hike and expect them to get soaked when you get to the falls.

Whale watch – If you have ever wanted to watch thousands of humpback whales get together, mate and/or give birth, Dominican Republic is a great place to watch this because every year hundred of thousands of whales can be seen off the Península de Samaná providing tourists with stunning sights you won’t soon forget.

White water raft – The Río Yaque del Norte is the Caribbean’s only river you can safely go white water rafting on. Prepare for some intense rapids to raft over, but it will be quickly before you know it and you will be rewarded with some nice flat water glide across as you enjoy the mountainous views.

Visit the first American Cathedral in Santo Domingo – Santo Domingo is home to The Cathedral of Santa María la Menor which is the oldest Cathedral of the Americas.

Sunbathe at Playa Rincón – This beach is often touted as the best of the Caribbean because it is largely undeveloped and offers barely any shade. You’ll barely find any vendors and don’t even bother looking for facilities. What keeps this beach so pristine is its difficulty in accessing it. In fact, there is just one rocky road leading there from Las Galeras.

Top Tip for Increasing Sales and Earning your Incentive Trip

by Tammy Levent July 21, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

Top Tip for Increasing Sales and Earning your Incentive Trip picThe big key to earning an incentive trip is that you have to sell enough goods/services to earn it. How to go about making more sales has always been a hot topic. So much so that it’s a common discussion amongst marketers and sales geniuses on podcasts, blogs and even YouTube videos. The top tip they all seem to come to for increasing sales? Simply listening to your customer’s problem and providing the solution. That’s it. Not gimmicky, no sleaze- just listening and providing.

Read our post on what makes a great sales pitch.

Where do you find the people that have the problem that you have the solution to? Go to the online forums where these people are complaining about the problem. See if it’s trending on Facebook and Twitter. Give your ideal customer profile to your favorite data provider and ask for only those leads. If your boss allows it ask friends and family on social media who needs what you’re providing and then listen for responses. Go to competitor websites and see who is commenting on their blog and reach out to those people with a better offer.

Should you give up on a sales lead? Read this to find out.

Okay, you’ve done all that and are still struggling to sell. Why aren’t your ideal clients buying what you’re selling? Maybe they think it won’t work for them. Perhaps they believe that you are more hyped about the product or service than you should be. Or this could be a financial issue. Again, this comes back to listening. You need to listen to why you haven’t converted the prospect to a customer so that you can provide a solution that closes the deal.

Bottom line, listen to what people want and then, if you can provide the solution make the pitch. If they still don’t buy listen again to find out why. Listening and providing options will land you more sales guaranteed.

Stop Fighting Over Seats on the Plane!

by Tammy Levent July 13, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

July 2015- General - Fighting Over Airline Seats

Dear airline passengers of ALL future flights,

This post will serve as my open letter to the general public regarding the annoying trend that has presented itself way too many times in recent months, dare I say years- Fighting over seats on the plane. First, let me say I understand that you aren’t necessarily always going to be happy with the seat you end up with, but if you are like many passengers you likely ended up with the seat you have because you either didn’t book far enough in advance, you didn’t check in and pick your seat early enough, you chose to book online via a discount site (they often don’t get first pick by the way), you didn’t want to pay the extra fee for additional leg room or some other similar issue.

If you ended up with a seat you didn’t want and want to change it please do us all a favor and head to the ticket counter and request it mentally accepting ahead of time that you may be stuck with your designated seat anyway. Don’t be the rude passenger that decides you are going to sit in whatever damn seat you choose once you board the plane because this will just cause discomfort for everyone involved- the flight attendants, you, the actual person the seat was assigned to and potentially other passengers. Don’t be that guy!

Should there be a medical condition that is causing you to need a different seat, bring it to the attention of the flight attendants. If it’s that you want to be seated close to your family member and weren’t assigned a seat next to them, again, bring it to the attention of the flight attendants. Let them handle it because they can do so with courtesy and grace. After all of this you still might not get the seat you want and if that is the case, PLEASE- let it go or opt for another flight. Nobody wants to hear you complaining the entire way to the next stop or final destination.

Thank you on behalf of all the other flight passengers.

All the best,

Tammy Levent

Incentive Destination Spotlight – Jamaica

by Tammy Levent June 22, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

Incentive Destination Spotlight- JamaicaOne common destination that companies choose for incentive trips for their employees is Jamaica. What is it about this island country that has so many people flocking to it annually? Let’s dive into what makes Jamaica such a popular choice!

– It’s a hop, skip and a jump from the United States. Located just 90 miles south of Cuba, most people can get to Jamaica with just a day of flying time. Even a flight all the way from Seattle, Washington to Jamaica is just under seven hours if you can fly direct.

– There are so many sites to see there. You could swim in the Blue Hole or walk the Seven Mile Beach, hike to the Dunn’s River Falls or kayak in the Glistening Waters. There are also countless dance clubs to get your groove on, eateries to indulge your culinary senses, water sports that will keep your adrenaline pumping and spas to relax and unwind.

– Three Words: Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville. There are Jimmy Buffett Margritaville locations all over Jamaica and the most popular is found in Montego Bay. Located on Montego Bay’s famous “Hip Strip,” it is thee place for fun and entertainment and- you guessed it- margaritas!

– The country has some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the world. Employers love all-inclusive resorts because they are budget-friendly. Employees love all-inclusive resorts because of how much they get while vacationing! Along with lodging your employees will enjoy all of their meals, drinks and several water sports. With everything they need on-site the guess work is removed leaving extra time to just unwind and recharge their batteries before they have to head back to the office.

If you are an employee who stumbled onto this page because you want to convince your boss that he should create and incentive program at your company check out this post!

Why You Feel Sick When you Come Back From a Trip

by Tammy Levent June 15, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

feeling like crap after travel

Have you ever gone on vacation only to come back feeling worse than when you left? You get that icky feeling in the back of your throat or you have an undeniable headache. Perhaps you have a stomach ache or even a combination of all of the above. Why do you feel so bad after coming home?

The usual suspects – You could have eaten or drank something that didn’t agree with you. You know the old jokes about not drinking the water in foreign countries and being careful about what you eat? Those jokes came out of real cases of food and drink poisoning.

The environmental change – You likely were in a place with a completely different environment than you are used to. Maybe it’s your allergies acting up or just your body having to fight harder at all the germs you encountered from the new people you were surrounded by. In your daily life you typically hang around the same people, but when traveling you are introduced to a flurry of change.

You could have caught something in transit – The air in the vents on the airplane, the poor ventilation in the subway, the mildew tainted rooms you didn’t know about on that cruise ship- anything is possible.

Your body is not used to a break – For some people getting sick while traveling happens because it’s the first time their body has taken a break in months, or even years. Your body has been so used to a constant adrenaline stream that getting sick would have eventually happened anyway, but taking the break made your body realize how bad it needed a break in the first place. (Note- this is all the more reason you should use ALL of your vacation days)

We’re not doctors, but these reasons for your possible icky feelings make perfect sense to us. Regardless of what caused it, we hope you feel better soon!

A TKO – Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight Travel Expenses

by Tammy Levent May 13, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight pic 3

For many travelers and boxing fans, their heads are still spinning from the whirlwind weekend of the Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight in Las Vegas the weekend of May 2, 2015. And it’s not just because of all the hype surrounding the fight, it’s also because now that they’ve had a week to digest all of it it’s hitting many of them just how much of a toll the weekend took on their bank accounts!

One of our clients paid $5,000 per person for his tickets, but tickets were going for nearly $40,000- $100,000 per person on site like Stubhub according to some media reports. Add to this the costs of hotels at $500-$1,000 a night, flights and additional fees for any other events for the weekend and before you know it you have spent enough money on one weekend to buy a house! Talk about a knockout punch to the wallet.

Even people that stayed home are talking about how much they spent for the fight. Some networks were charging upwards of $100 or more just to watch two grown men duke it out for the title of champion! It’s probably not surprising then that because of the astronomical fees associated with a fight like this it’s already been touted as the most pirated fight ever broadcast.

Unfortunately, though the fight exceeded revenue expectations, it massively disappointed a plethora of fight fans. Via the hashtags #MayweatherPacquiao and #MayPac on social media fans expressed that disappointment with quotes like these:

  • So this is what you call “The battle of the century” – Romina Dela Rosa ‏@mcmlxvFR
  • This wasn’t even the Battle of the Week. – Judge n’Jury ‏@doctagee
  • Floyd Mayweather is an incredible fighter, but he just bored me out of $100. – Elizabeth Banks @ElizabethBanks
  • At the end of the day both fighters seemed more interested in cashing their 9 figure pay day, than actually winning. – Jon Winthrop ‏@JonWinthrop

We would love to know what you thought of the whole ordeal. Did you watch the fight live or on TV? What were your thoughts? Waste of travel dollars? Fight of the century? Leave a comment below and tell us about it!

How to Pack for Your Incentive Trip

by Tammy Levent May 11, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

How to Pack for Your Incentive TripAfter you earn your trip and your bookings are complete the real planning begins. It’s time to decide what you will pack for your vacation. Here are some ideas to help you figure out just what to put in your suitcase and what to leave at home:

– Consider where you are going and when you will be there: You wouldn’t pack a winter coat and boots for a sunny place like Cancun would you? No! You’re likely packing swimsuits, tropical shirts, hats and sunglasses. Still, keep in mind that although most outfits for tropical paradises such as this will be warm weather appropriate you will likely want at least one nice ensemble should you and your travel companions decide to go to a nice restaurant for dinner one night.

– Think about the length of your trip: Most people have a bad habit of over packing. Avoid this by tallying up the exact number of days and nights you will be away and only packing one outfit per day. You might even be able to get away with one outfit for every other day and mixing and matching the pieces on alternate days to create more than one look. Sure, you will have to wear things more than once, but has that really ever hurt anyone? No! Of course, bring clean underwear and socks for every day of travel!

– Leave books at home: If you can think of nothing better than reading a good book on the beach that’s fine, but books can make the weight of your suitcase soar quickly. Swap out those heavy items and avoid overweight luggage fees by bringing something like a Kindle or a Tablet instead with loads of digital books instead.

– Ditch the booze: Just because you can pack something doesn’t mean you should. A breakable bottle in your luggage is just asking for trouble. The last thing you want is your luggage reeking of tequila before you even make it to the bars of your destination. While we’re at it, leave other breakables at home as well.

– Bring toiletries and medications: You might not have access to the things you need at your destination. Bring your prescriptions in their original bottles to avoid customs issues if traveling internationally and be sure to put any toiletries in your checked baggage to avoid TSA issues. Speaking of toiletries, make sure you place them in a plastic bag before packing them in your luggage. This way if anything should burst or leak in transit you won’t ruin your entire suitcase of clothes.

What are your favorite packing tips? Leave a comment and tell us about it!

Connecting from Afar- Communicating While Traveling

by Tammy Levent April 24, 2015
written by Tammy Levent

Cell Phone Cameras

While on vacation it’s often nice to just get away from it all, but sometimes you’ll want to check in with family and friends back home. This is especially true for those traveling on extended trips. The question then becomes what are the best ways to communicate with loved ones from afar?

Facebook- Today this seems to be the most common way to check in with anyone from anywhere in the world. It’s free, it offers an email feature, you can post pictures of where you are and activities you’re doing and thousands more people are signing up for accounts daily making access easier than ever before.

Skype- This is becoming an extremely popular option for folks that want to connect and see the people they are talking to in real time. For military stationed overseas this is a common way to reach out to loved ones because they can hook up their webcams and see their friends and families while catching up.

WhatsApp Messenger- Tammy Levent, our CEO here at Elite Travel loves the WhatsApp Messenger app on her phone while she is traveling. WhatsApp Messenger is a messaging app available for Android and other smartphones and it uses your phone’s internet connection to message and call friends and family. The best part? No international charges. When you send WhatsApp messages internationally you can do it for just the cost of your internet hookup and if you’re able to find a free internet café to tap into their Wi-Fi there are no charges at all!

Note: As of the writing of this post there is an annual fee of $0.99 per year for some users to use this app. Check your app store for details.

Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or the like- Of course, with all of the other options available email is not as popular for communicating with family while traveling, but it’s still an option nonetheless. There are so many free email platforms available too. You just have to choose your favorite one and get an account.

What is your favorite way to communicate from afar? Chime in with a comment below!
