Travel Advisors and Industry Leaders Reveal Top 10 Spring Break Destinations for 2024

by Tammy Levent February 9, 2024

Spring break 2024 is just around the corner and if you haven’t booked you’re getaway yet, the options may be limited.

Travel advisors and industry insiders say some of the most popular spring break haunts are already booked solid and hotel rooms are now extremely hard to find.

So where is everyone headed for spring break this year?

It seems there are no limits on how far travelers are willing to go. While many sun-soaked favorites continue to top the list, there’s also plenty of far-flung global destinations generating buzz.

Here are 10 of the most popular places on the agenda for spring break 2024.

Mexico

Let’s start with the perennial favorite first, which is Mexico. The multitude of sunny options along with the plethora of all-inclusive resorts and the often budget friendly exchange rate, has helped ensure Mexico’s top status in the hearts and minds of spring break travelers.

“Mexico is always popular for this time of year, but more so in 2024 than last year,” says Ryan Doncsecz of VIP Vacations.

Why the extra popularity for Mexico this year in particular? Doncsecz has a theory about that.

“Mexico was one of the few destinations that wanted incoming tourism when most of the world was shut down in 2020 [amid the pandemic],” he explains. “It was one of the easier destinations to vacation – in comparison to other destinations. This perhaps caused a bit of fatigue for the destination in 2022. But I believe that this will be a huge year for travel to Mexico.”

Where in Mexico are travelers headed? There are many popular choices, say travel advisors.

Cancun for starters. “Cancun remains one of the most popular spring break destination requests for our agency,” says Jesse Morris, owner of We Book Travel, an affiliate of Avoya Travel.

“The hotel zone [in Cancun] provides a ton of exciting choices for friends to get together and have a good time,” continues Morris. “Prices this year are higher than in the past, mainly due to airfare, but that has not slowed demand for us.”

Tulum

Tulum is yet another option that’s attracting a lot of traffic this year. And it’s easy to understand why. Located on the Caribbean coastline, Tulum is renowned for its stunning beaches and rich cultural heritage.

“Our clients are particularly drawn to the all-inclusive resorts [in Tulum] for their exceptional service and comprehensive amenities,” says Jim Campbell, a travel agent who specializes in all-inclusive vacations and CEO of Honeymoons.com.

There are many upsides for travelers visiting Tulum, explains Campbell. For instance, it offers all-inclusive options for all budgets – from affordable to luxury.

It’s also easy to get to as there are direct flights available from several major cities. “This convenience, combined with the array of all-inclusive resorts, makes Tulum a highly desirable destination for a stress-free vacation,” says Campbell.

Los Cabos

Also eternally popular when it comes to choices in Mexico, Los Cabos is another locale attracting a fair share of spring break travelers this year (as it does nearly every year.)

“This is where you’ll find me in a couple of weeks,” says Travelzoo Senior Editor Gabe Saglie. “It’s easy to get to, thanks to healthy airline competition, and the plethora of new resorts continue to make this Baja California darling an easy vacation to plan.”

Beyond the flight and resort options, Los Cabos also offers an abundance of wellness activities for travelers – beyond its already famous luxe spa programs. Think: Connecting with the outdoors and enjoying the rejuvinating benefits of nature.

And if that’s not enough, elevated regional and locally-sourced cuisine is also gaining new attention at the moment. “Los Cabos may have more to offer than most any other south-of-the-border destination right now,” adds Sagllie.

Need one more reason to go? The average temperature in Los Cabos throughout all of March is a pleasant low- to mid-70s.

Europe

While Europe has historically been a top choice for summer vacations, it’s also becoming a spring break hotspot. Just ask Tammy Levent, CEO of Elite Travel.

“There has been a noticeable increase in travel to European destinations, particularly London and Paris, which can be attributed to the upcoming Olympics in Paris,” says Levent, whose had at least one dozen clients request trips to France for spring break.

The worldwide excitement surrounding the summer Olympic games helped ensure that the French capital was top of mind among travelers when planning spring vacation.

“This major event is drawing global attention,” explains Levent. “Additionally, the cost of air travel to Europe has become more competitive, in some cases even cheaper than traveling to the Caribbean, making it an attractive option for those seeking new experiences.”

___________________________________________________________

Tahiti

To be fair, Tahiti may be a very long haul for some U.S. travelers – depending on which part of the country you live in. But that tiny logistical matter aside, Christina Turrini, a leisure travel consultant with FROSCH, says plenty of clients are making a beeline for the dreamy destination over spring break this year.

“I’m currently seeing an influx of bookings for spring to the islands of Tahiti,” says Turrini. “The airfares to Papeete are very competitive right now, making it a good time to book.”

There’s also a variety of promotions designed to entice travelers to visit Tahiti at the moment. That includes resorts offering discounts for travelers who book overnight stays at multiple Tahitian islands during a visit and extended booking windows designed to enhance value for travelers as well.

Japan

Similar to Tahiti, a spring break trip to Japan is definitely a big commitment. It’s a long journey and not one travelers typically want to squeeze into a mere week.

Nevertheless, Turrini says some spring break travelers are making it work. Families in particular are utilizing remote and hybrid learning for young travelers in order to extend spring break slightly longer.

“Japan is open and popular,” says Turrini. “Limited availability has not reduced interest in travel to Japan. The strength of the dollar versus the Yen has made travel to Japan more accessible. What may have been seen as a bucket list dream in the past..is now ‘Let’s go while the value is high.’”

Turrini isn’t the only one who suggests Japan is an under-the-radar spring break hotspot.

Sophie-anne Burton, head of global travel curation for the luxury travel company Scenset says it’s a frequent choice among her customers as well.

“Japan is a perennial favorite during spring break, primarily due to the enchanting cherry blossoms that paint the country in hues of pink,” she explains. “This time [of year] offers a moderate climate, making it the most popular and beautiful season to visit.”

The demand for Japan is particularly high since the country lifted its COVID-era restrictions for international visitors in late 2022, after two-and-a-half years of tightened border rules.

Now there’s pent up demand for the destination and Burton recommends booking at least a year in advance. Meaning, if you haven’t already reserved your visit for spring break 2024, you may need to wait until 2025 to go.

Orlando, Florida

Between Walt Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios, and Legoland (to name a few of the options) is it any wonder that Orlando is a top choice for spring breakers in 2024?

“Orlando continues to be a favorite due to its treasure trove of theme parks and family-friendly activities,” says Joy Dietz, a concierge travel agent who specializes in exclusive destinations.

“While not the most budget-friendly destination due to park ticket prices and resort accommodations, the comprehensive packages available…can help mitigate costs, providing more value and convenience for families,” adds Dietz.

Jamaica

Jamaica’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes continue to draw spring break travelers year after year. And 2024 is proving to be no exception.

“The island’s friendly atmosphere and rich music scene add to the appeal,” says Campbell, of Honeymoons.com.

Jamaica’s attractiveness is further enhanced by the fact that there are all-inclusive options across different price points – from budget-friendly to high-end luxury.

“Our clients frequently highlight the benefits of all-inclusives in Jamaica,” continues Campbell. “These resorts not only provide a hassle-free experience with everything included, but also offer a chance to experience authentic Jamaican cuisine and culture within the resort, enhancing the overall vacation experience.”

Maui, Hawaii

Devastated by wildfires in 2023, Maui as a spring break destination offers the ultimate example of how travel dollars can do good.

“Yes, there’s still a delicate balance to keep top of mind, since the healing after the Lahaina fires in August continues. But the vast majority of jobs here are tightly linked to tourism and travel to Maui – when done responsibly, respectfully and mindfully – can have a major positive impact on residents’ livelihoods,” says Saglie.

Those headed to Maui for spring break will not find a bargain on accommodations. Resort prices haven’t dropped, in large part because so many displaced families are being housed in local hotels. However, Saglie says “the airfare wars are on…and car rental rates are back to being competitive.”

Puerto Rico

This island favorite saw record-breaking tourism in 2023. Over the course of last year, the U.S. territory welcomed more than 6.1 million passengers at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. That figure represents a year-over-year increase of 18.6 percent

And for spring break 2024, the island continues to be a convenient choice, says Saglie.

“For those making last-minute travel plans – and who may have yet to renew their passports – this U.S. territory continues to appeal,” explains Saglie.

Beyond passport logistics, there’s many reasons why Puerto Rico is attractive for spring break. Not only is there an abundance of flight options to the island, there’s also plenty of healthy competition among resorts on the ground, which can deliver value to bargain-minded travelers.

And for travelers who like to remain active on vacation, Puerto Rico offers a multitude of options from water sports to hiking and exploring the rain forest.

“The secret is quickly getting out: adventure seekers and lovers of the outdoors can find a treasure trove of activities in Puerto Rico,” says Saglie.

Norway

Perhaps influenced by the “Succession-effect” (the final season of the popular television show featured scenes filmed in Norway), this Nordic destination has proven to be a popular alternative to more traditional Southern European destinations. And that includes for spring break 2024, says Burton.

“Norway offers a captivating blend of nature’s splendor and vibrant city life,” Burton explains. “Cities like Oslo boast a fusion of modernity and cultural richness, with highlights such as the Royal Castle, Karl Johan Street, the Opera House, and the stunning Vigeland Park.”

The picturesque coastal town of Ålesund, meanwhile, features Art Nouveau architecture and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Geirangerfjord. Ålesund has gained significant interest, especially among those who enjoy hiking, exploring fjords, and discovering smaller cities.

“The picturesque coastal town…offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural charm,” explains Burton.

But don’t expect a bargain visit for this destination, whether that’s over spring break or any other time of year. Norway is known for being relatively more expensive than other destinations.

Though Burton says the unique experiences and breathtaking landscapes make it a compelling choice for travelers willing to invest in an unforgettable adventure.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Nearly two dozen of Campbell’s clients have opted for Punta Cana getaways this year for spring break.

Travelers are drawn by the destination’s beautiful beaches and array of all-inclusive resorts, he says. And that’s not all.

“The resorts here cater to a range of preferences, offering activities and amenities for every age group, he says. And the prices aren’t bad either.

“The all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana offer great value, with options to suit different budgets,” says Campbell.

Thinking About Traveling During the Coronavirus Outbreak? Using a Common Sense Approach

by Tammy Levent June 1, 2020
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

While its completely understandable that so many people are concerned about traveling due to the coronavirus outbreak, I feel it’s really important to put everything in perspective. Even though there’s no one-size-fits all answer to this current predicament that’s literally affecting the entire world now, using a common sense approach is essential, as it’s too easy for some to let fear and/or their emotions get in the way of their ability to think clearly during this particular time in traveling history.

I want everyone to know that there are still many places they can travel to, as many places are still considered to be safe. So for those who want or need to travel at this time, it’s really just a matter of figuring out what places are still safe to travel to. This requires travelers to keep on top of all travel news related to the virus, making it essential that they educate themselves well. This is simple to do, as those who still want to go on with their travel plans at this time just need to keep on top of all travel advisories, as they can change at any given moment.

How to Protect Oneself

There are a few things travelers can do to protect themselves, as it’s necessary to avoid being exposed to the virus in order to prevent one from getting ill. The best ways travelers can protect themselves from getting the virus is to wash their hands frequently with soap and water, not touch their face, wear a mask if it makes them feel safer, and maintain at least 3 feet in between them and anyone who is exhibiting any signs of the virus, like coughing and sneezing.

The CDC has posted the following questions for travelers, which will help them make a final decision on whether or not they should travel during this outbreak.

  • Is COVID-19 spreading where you’re going?
  • Will you or your travel companion(s) be in close contact with others during your trip?
  • Are you or your travel companion(s) at higher risk of severe illness if you do get COVID-19?
  • Do you have a plan for taking time off from work or school, in case you get exposed to, or are sick with, COVID-19?
  • Do you live with someone who is older or has a severe chronic health condition?
  • Is COVID-19 spreading where you live?

Important Coronavirus Facts

Because I feel it’s so important for travelers to understand everything they need to know at this time, I thought it would be beneficial to make a list of facts to help travelers determine what they should do regarding traveling at this particular time. While all travel-related facilities are indeed taking great measures to reduce the risk of anyone getting diagnosed with the virus, it’s still necessary for all travelers to take matters into their own hands by doing everything possible to protect themselves from the virus, as there is no vaccine as of yet.

The list of facts below are beneficial for any traveler, as there’s so much information on the Internet and on the news nowadays, it can be difficult for travelers to understand what is fact and what is fiction.

  • FACT: The State Department has issued a Global Level 3 health advisory, which means that those who live within the United States are encouraged to reconsider any travels to other countries that have confirmed cases of the coronavirus. A Global Level 4 advisory, which has not happened yet, is the level that prevents travelers from taking part in any type of travel. So traveling is still an option.

  • FACT: Transportation facilities are taking extreme measures to clean high-touch areas often throughout the day, minimizing the risk of someone getting the virus when traveling by bus, train and airplane. Special attention is also being placed on cleaning areas where staff work, like check-in counters. They have also provided travelers with more hand sanitizing locations, encouraging travelers to use them often.

  • FACT: It’s an option for travelers to check in for their transportation travels using their cell phone. This is a good idea, as it means they don’t have to touch any self-service kiosks in order to check in for their reservation. And instead of handing over their phone to one of the agents or baggage handlers for identification purposes, they can simply hold on to their phone and show them the information.

  • FACT: Hotels are also responding to the outbreak, as they’re increasing the frequency of how often the clean any public areas. They’re also training employees on new ways to clean, helping to minimize the chances of any hotel guests being diagnosed. This includes cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting all areas of a hotel, including any food areas.

 Bottom Line

It’s up to travelers whether or not they want to travel during this current outbreak. The above facts should help travelers make the right decision, as these factual pieces of information are in place in order to help travelers make the right decision. All travelers are definitely encouraged to use a common sense approach when making their decisions, vs. letting their fear or emotions take over. If the decision to travel has been made, then it’s essential for all travelers to buy a travel insurance policy.

The Responsible Traveler

by Tammy Levent April 7, 2020
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

What responsibilities does a traveler have when booking a trip? While many people associate responsible travelers as those who are mindful of their carbon footprint, respect the culture and customs of the places they’re visiting, and will take the time to learn about a place before choosing to travel to that location, there are other ways that travelers need to be responsible. Ready to learn more?

The Responsible Traveler

Anytime a traveler uses a travel agent to book their next trip, both the traveler and the travel agent must be sure to pay very close attention to their individual responsibilities. The responsibility of the travel agent is to plan the trip in a way that meets all of the travelers wants and needs. This includes doing things like making travel reservations, hotel accommodations, tour reservations, entertainment reservations, and selling them necessary travel insurance.

The list below includes the many different ways that travelers need to be responsible when booking their next trip, whether they use a travel agent or not.

  • Make sure all documents are printed and taken with you on your trip. Making 2 copies and keeping them in separate places is recommended, as well as leaving copies with trusted friends and/or family members.
  • Make sure any travel company you want to do business with is legit. Simply performing some detailed research will give you the information you need.
  • Be sure to get every person’s name you’re dealing with. This supports your ability to have a trail when it’s necessary to contact these people for any reason.
  • Make sure your passport will not expire in the next 6 months. Most countries won’t let travelers enter unless their passport expires at least 6 months after their last day of travel.
  • Know where you are and who to contact in case of an emergency. This is one of the first things you should do when staying in a new location.
  • Take out travel insurance, for you and all who are traveling with you. You never know when something will happen, like an injury, or someone back home gets sick. The current Coronavirus crises is a perfect example of why you need travel insurance, as it’s not the responsibility of the hotel, airline, or travel agent if something happens to you during your travels. When buying travel insurance, be sure to read all the fine print, and find out what the cancellation policy requires you to do.

Have a Great Time, Responsible Traveler!

House of Blues: New Orleans

by Tammy Levent November 21, 2019
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel groupAs everyone surely knows, there are quite a few places to enjoy listening to blues music while visiting New Orleans! One place that immediately comes to mind is the House of Blues, a perfect combination of a live music concert hall, bar and restaurant. They hold musical concerts and events, and in a variety of genres, throughout the entire year, so there’s really something for everyone.

 House of Blues: New Orleans

There are now 12 House of Blues locations in the United States, and in my opinion, the one in New Orleans is one of the absolute best! This particular House of Blues is located on Decatur St., in the French Quarter neighborhood. I recently visited the New Orleans House of Blues and decided to take advantage of their Foundation Room offerings, a VIP membership option. Because the Foundation Room only sits about 50 people, it makes for a more personal experience.

Their private member club includes LOTS of perks that I think are well worth the cost of membership. And I really enjoy the Bohemian feel. The priority access, the private VIP tables, the personalized concierge service, the ability to order from their premium menu, and more, all come with VIP membership. There’s even an option to attend pre-concert events and meet and greet with a variety of artists, as this is also part of the VIP experience.

My group was very excited that we got to enjoy a very personal VIP concert by Candlebox when we went, an American rock band that’s released multiple albums in the many years they’ve been together. There were a total of 6 in our party and every single one of us truly enjoyed the experience from the very beginning to the very end!

A few things to know about this House of Blues location – attire is casual, they serve brunch, lunch and dinner, and their food choices include American, contemporary, seafood and Cajun.

I used to be a member of the Las Vegas House of Blues. Because I have a travel agency that caters to a lot of corporate clients, as well as weddings, I would often use the membership as a perk for both types of clients. The entire staff at the House of Blues is very accommodating.

The Ritz Carlton in Aruba

by Tammy Levent September 13, 2019
written by Tammy Levent

elite travel group

Every traveler needs to include Aruba on their travel bucket list! I recently visited this small Southern Caribbean island, which is not included in the hurricane belt. This means travelers can expect to experience fantastic weather throughout the entire year. I stayed at the Ritz Carlton, and had such a great time that I wanted to share my experience with you all!

Aruba

Aruba is also known as Caribbean Paradise, and no wonder as it is one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. The people are friendly, the beaches are absolutely stunning, there are really interesting caves to explore, and a really great natural pool to lounge in. The beaches are what lures travelers in, as Aruba is well-known for its gorgeous white sand beaches, the oceans turquoise color, and its comfortably warm sea waters.

The Ritz Carlton

My stay at the Ritz Carlton was fantastic! This luxury Caribbean hotel is especially a great choice for incentive travel, destination weddings, and honeymoons. It’s located on one of the nicest of all the beaches in Aruba, which means some of the best views of the Caribbean Ocean. This five star luxury hotel offers all of the amenities one would expect – a variety of exceptional dining venues, luxury spa treatments, a 24 hour casino, live entertainment, beachfront venues, custom catering, a club lounge, and of course luxury rooms and suites.

  • All of the rooms offer ocean views via a balcony or terrace, with most offering ocean front views. The décor is inspired by all things Caribbean, making the overall design one that’s vibrant and welcoming.
  • The variety of dining venues means there’s always a new cuisine to try out. There’s a steakhouse, an Italian restaurant, a breakfast buffet restaurant, a casual outdoor restaurant by the pool, a sushi bar, a lounge bar, and a café that makes some of the best coffee and a variety of handmade baked goodies.
  • The luxury spa is to die for! We indulged ourselves in many of the spa offerings, and we were completely satisfied with the services.
  • The 15,000 square foot casino has all of the traditional games one would expect to find in a casino. Live entertainment can be enjoyed in the lounge area right next to the casino.
  • There are cabanas available by the pool and the beach, allowing for a perfect day of luxury lounging! The servers use Segway’s as to not waste any time bringing our drinks.

Additional reasons include wanting to explore the rich culture that exists here, the ability to relax on Italy’s great beaches, wanting to enjoy consuming its delicious cuisine and getting to know the friendly locals.

Capri – All the Great Things to do There

The island of Capri offers vacationers a number of things to do, making it a good idea to make a list of must-sees and must-dos. In order to get to the island, visitors must take a ferry or rent a private boat. The following is a list of some of the more popular experiences and exciting tour opportunities that Capri has to offer.

  • Take a boat tour around the island. Booking a boat tour allows vacationers to enjoy the gorgeous views. For those who love to explore, they can even enter a wooden rowboat that allows them to check out the Blue Grotto sea cave, a true once in a lifetime adventure.
  • Take a chairlift to the peak of Mount Solaro. Taking a chairlift up to the top of this spectacular mountain allows for some of the most scenic views available on the planet. Vacationers are encouraged to enjoy the views while taking pictures, as well as encouraged to order drinks from the nearby café.
  • Watch the sunset. The Punta Carena Lighthouse is the only location on the island where vacationers can actually watch the sun set into the Mediterranean Sea. Vacationers are encouraged to arrive at the lighthouse a few hours before sunset so they can swim, sunbathe, and enjoy a cocktail, allowing for a truly enjoyable afternoon.
  • Enjoy an evening at the Taverna. Vacationers who want to experience the Capri nightlife are encouraged to reserve a table at the infamous Taverna nightclub. The energy, the upbeat music, the dancing, and the great drinks all make for a really fun atmosphere.
