40 Cake for Big Birthdays - Big Travel Plans

More and more clients are coming in asking me to help them celebrate their Big 3-0’s, Big 4-0’s, and Big 5-0’s in an exotic destination. These birthday travel plans are becoming such a frequent request that I think it’s time to call it a trend. Where should you go on your next birthday? Well, that just depends on how young you feel.

Thrifty 30

Many 30-year-olds are almost as strapped for cash as they were in their 20’s – between the economy and saving for their first house. However, the thirties might also be the last few years before children, mortgages, and other adult responsibilities turn your duffel bag into a diaper bag, and your travel funds into home repairs. Live it up now! Plan a road trip around the American South; book a tour to Vietnam and Cambodia; or blaze a trail through Costa Rican rainforest. Or, you know, rent a beach house for a week and work on your tan (even young people need rest and recuperation sometimes).

Just For You 40

Life is a whirlwind of family responsibilities and work stress, and what you need is a place where you can let go of it all and focus on you. I love Body Holiday at LeSport for just that. Designed to re-calibrate your body, mind and spirit, this gorgeous resort in St. Lucia offers yoga, massage, gourmet healthy dining, and activities that will help you get back to being the best version of yourself.

50-Year Fantasy

What you need is for someone to wait on you hand and foot while you lounge in comfort, sipping your frozen margarita – am I right? Don’t just fantasize about it – book it! My absolute favorite destination for feeling taken care of is Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Top shelf liquor, gourmet dining, and activities like tennis, yoga, sailboats and kayaks, and cooking classes all come with the all-inclusive package. Not to mention a world-class spa – and proximity to five championship golf courses. It’s one of my favorite resorts.

On-Board With 60

When you want to spend more time with your kids and grandkids, a family cruise can be a wonderful and affordable option for multigenerational travel. Why not celebrate your birthday with everyone you love on board a ship headed to an exciting destination? Cruise ships leave from Florida shores every day with destinations and itineraries for every taste. Isn’t it time you were on one of them?

Sitting Pretty at 70+

I have two words for the 70 and older crowd: canal cruise. Europe is crisscrossed with ancient waterways and the best way to see the sights is to use them. Charter an 8-12 passenger barge for a week with your friends or family, and float by castles and medieval villages while sipping local wines and indulging in cheese and chocolates. Most barges pride themselves on their food, and you’ll be drifting through the best wine regions in the world. Barge travel is also the perfect solution for those with mobility issues.

Some people might feel depressed at getting another year older, but I challenge anyone to feel down while flying a mile-high on the way to your next adventure.
